Introduction
Rochester and Rutherford Hall is governed by an executive council that serves the educational aspirations of first year undergraduate students studying at the University of Canterbury. The importance of tradition, along with innovation of culture, shape our guiding values of community, respect, balance, opportunity, and support.
The Hall’s Primary purpose, determined from its Christian foundation, is to draw out the best in our residents and enable them to flourish and make positive connections that will last a lifetime. Throughout the year students encounter a wide range of social interactions and opportunities to expand a wide network of connections from throughout New Zealand.
As the Hall Principal, it is my privilege to lead a dynamic community of learners who explore ways to contribute and encounter community. I work alongside a strong and committed staff, who are dedicated to their roles of responsibility and who contribute greatly to the culture of growth and development. As a team, we support functional relationships that will shape further connections, both educationally and within the global community.
We understand our responsibility to provide a Hall that is compliant within the New Zealand code of pastoral care, protect academic integrity and teach robust skills to manage newfound independence with living and learning.
